Operation Walk Utah Relief Program
Thousands of Utahns suffer from painful joint problems and may need surgery at some point in their lives. Each year, more than 10,000 hip and knee replacements are performed in the state of Utah, but this figure does not include the many people who go without the surgery.
Unfortunately some individualssimply don’t have the financial capacity to afford the joint replacement procedure. These are deserving citizens who, due to varying circumstances, are without insurance.
Painful and non-functional hips or knees are a tremendous hindrance to quality of life. And many have lived with this disability for decades with limited options.
Operation Walk is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides free hip and knee replacements for patients with disabling arthritis. The Utah Chapter was started to help those struggling in our area; most of the volunteers are practicing professionals in our community. Help comes from a combination of volunteer and product donation, but this alone has not been enough to meet the local demand.
Here are a few examples of what your donation can do:
- $10 will pay for vitamins and supplements
- $20 will pay for crutches
- $50 will fund a bath chair and commode
- $100 will pay for a patient’s pain medications
- $250 will pay for antibiotics for surgery
- $500 will pay for physical therapy
- $1,000 will pay for a prosthetic implant
- $5,000 will fully support one hip or knee replacement
Hundreds of Utahns needing joint replacement could benefit from your contribution. Your donation will help provide supplies that would have otherwise be lacking, which affords more recipients. DONATE TODAY.
Local physicians and health care professionals give their time. They also use their resources and contacts to acquire donations from implant device manufacturers including Biomet, DePuy, Smith & Nephew, Stryker and Zimmer. Salt Lake City-based manufacturerTotal Joint Orthopedics provides the hip replacements locally.
This opportunity to help members of our community is both humbling and rewarding. Your support will have a meaningful, long-lasting effect to those in need.
With a hip or knee replacement, healing goes well beyond the physical body. It can mean a completely new outlook on life. Imagine being confined to a wheelchair or a lifetime of crutches and suddenly being able to walk again.Or having the ability to perform the simple day-to-day activities, such as walking to the kitchen or standing from a chair. Even keeping up a home can be an arduous task. Many of these people lose their livelihoods because of their inability to get around or do everyday chores.
With your help, more joint replacement surgeries are possible in our community. Make a difference in someone’s life. Volunteer, or donate today.
